Liverpool Will Not Change Attacking Style In the Face of Poor Run of Form, Declares Arne Slot

Liverpool's head coach has stated that the Anfield decision-makers agree with his assessment regarding the recent downturn and he has no intention of discarding their offensive approach in search of a solution. The manager admitted that six defeats in seven games was unacceptable ahead of Saturday's match against Aston Villa.

Growing Expectations During Difficult Period

The manager acknowledged the expectations were high before his rotated squad were eliminated from the Carabao Cup against their Premier League rivals. However, he insisted that this pressure to arrest the slide is not coming from the team's proprietors or management structure following a summer transfer outlay of nearly £450 million.

"Our views align," commented Slot, whose team next week face the Spanish giants in the continental tournament and travel to Pep Guardiola's side in the Premier League.

Squad Quality Continues Unquestioned

Slot believes his team "have an unbelievable squad if they are all fit and all ready for the schedule ahead". He said that the recent signings in talents including the attacking midfielder and Alexander Isak, who is expected to be sidelined again against Aston Villa through physical problems, had left the club "in a strong situation for the near future and the long-term future".

Gelling Difficulties

When pressed on why his team were having difficulty blending, he answered: "That question isn't constructive. 'What's causing this?' I give an explanation and people say I'm making justifications. I can list several explanations why we are not winning as much or suffering defeats as we do but, as I consistently state, there are inadequate reasons to have a results sequence as we had now."

  • Regardless of whether I could come up with 200 excuses
  • When you are Liverpool you cannot lose
  • Unfortunately six losses from seven matches

Defensive Numbers

Only Burnley (21) have conceded more clear opportunities from normal situations this season than the Merseysiders (nineteen). The first-place team, the North London club, have faced two. Yet Slot denies the team has been overly exposed and maintains there is no basis to sacrifice his attacking principles for a more pragmatic style after ten fixtures without a goalless performance.

"I don't see us allowing many opportunities so I see no justification to change our playing style completely but we must improve in not conceding goals," he said.

Recent Examples

"Versus the Red Devils, how many opportunities did we allow? When playing Frankfurt when we were ahead by two goals, we hardly conceded a shot on target. In every match we have played so far we haven't conceded a many opportunities. Absolutely not. We do give away a bit more than last season but that has to do with us being 1-0 down so you play more openly. But overall I don't believe that our issue is that we allow too many opportunities. Our problem is we are unable to finish the opportunities we generate."
