Paceman Gus Atkinson Adds to the English team's Injury Worries.

'Significant concern' for the English camp as Atkinson leaves the field suffering a hamstring problem.

The pace bowler increased the injury concerns plaguing England after leaving the field early on day two of the Boxing Day Test versus the Australians.

The right-arm seamer felt a problem in his left hamstring after the final ball in his spell at the MCG.

The England team stated Atkinson reported "discomfort" and required time away from the action in order to be assessed "during the day".

The final Test of the series at the SCG begins at the end of the week.

The visitors have already lost key quicks Mark Wood due to knee trouble and Jofra Archer with an abdominal strain during this series.

Matthew Fisher was called up as injury reinforcement.

Atkinson struggled early in the series, managing only a handful of scalps.

He was left out for the Adelaide match, before being recalled for the fourth Test in the playing XI.

Surrey's Atkinson showed better form in Melbourne, bagging two scalps with the ball, and scoring 28 runs as a batsman among just a trio of English batsmen to reach double figures.

Post a single over at the end of day one, he resumed on Saturday morning and removed Scott Boland edging to the keeper.

Yet, on the final ball of that over, he sent down a slower ball to Travis Head and promptly felt his left hamstring.

The English bowler returned to the side for the Boxing Day Test following his omission the Adelaide game.
