Pat Bamford Joins the Blades After Initiating Abusive Songs About Manager Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of the Championship side just half a year following instigating derogatory songs directed at their manager, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club after departing from Leeds United, has signed a deal joining the Championship club in difficulty until January. His lengthy time at Elland Road finished by mutual consent in August.

One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive chants about Chris Wilder amid Leeds' success festivities this spring. Now, the one-cap England player is set to play under Wilder as the Blades’ manager looks to pull the team he loves away from the relegation zone.

Past Conflict Between Bamford & the Manager

Both men had previous conflict before Leeds earned promotion back to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. Wilder called the forward as “a muppet” back when the situation was different in 2018-19 and the Blades won direct promotion whereas Leeds missed out in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Moving Forward

Everything appears to have been forgiven and forgotten with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of a boost up front and Bamford hoping to rejuvenate his career.

The song about Wilder spread widely in April. A repentant Patrick and the Leeds manager, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Wilder commented back then: “Had a conversation with Patrick recently and I have no problem whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain regarding the language from a fellow professional! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel Farke as well and had a half-hour chat together and he is a super guy, a top guy. Back in my playing days we would dish it out and accept it and that is part and parcel of the game at every level, including Sunday league. I've got no problem at all. I am cool with it and I said that to Pat.”

Latest Career Struggles

The forward featured in 18 games for Leeds in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with injury over the past few seasons.
