Former President Donald Trump revealed on the weekend that he has extended an invitation the loved ones of a National Guard member fatally shot last week to come to the White House.

He mentioned that he spoke to her family and they were “devastated”.

Background on the Heartbreaking Shooting

US army specialist Sarah Beckstrom, 20, was fatally shot in a shooting on last Wednesday in Washington DC.

Her colleague, US air force staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, continues receiving treatment in serious condition.

Memorials across West Virginia have taken place in their memory.

White House Call

The commander-in-chief stated he’s proposed a White House visit for the loved ones of both individuals of the West Virginia National Guard.

“I said: ‘When you’re able, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to pay tribute to Sarah,” the president informed journalists. “And in the same way with Andrew, whether he recovers or not.”

Public Response

Community members assembled over the past few days at a local school in the state to pay respects to Beckstrom.

Both the soldiers had been serving with the West Virginia National Guard as part of Trump’s federal initiative to support law enforcement in the capital.

Remembering Sarah Beckstrom

“She was the kind of student that teachers hoped for. She carried herself with calm resilience, a bright grin and a positive energy that encouraged people around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the principal of Beckstrom’s previous school, stated to the media. “She was kind, considerate and always ready to assist people.”

Funeral details for Sarah are yet to be finalized.

Judicial Measures and Policy Changes

Law enforcement have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old individual from Afghanistan with a charge of homicide and two counts of violent assault while armed.

The tragedy prompted the administration to suspend asylum applications and halt providing visas to owners of passports from Afghanistan.

Condition of Andrew Wolfe

Andrew Wolfe, a native of Martinsburg, enlisted in February 2019 and is a graduate of his local high school, per the Associated Press.

He continues to receive treatment and is “battling to survive”, the state’s governor the governor stated on Fox News Channel’s The Sunday Briefing.

The state’s top lawyer the attorney general told a news show that she aimed to speak to the family.

Legacy of Sarah Beckstrom

Sarah, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in June 2023 and enlisted soon after, working as a military police officer with distinction, according to the state guard.

“She had a lot of goodness and she certainly had fortitude,” he addressed the gathering at the memorial. “Though her time lasted far too short, she has created a legacy that’s going to last forever.”
