🔗 Share this article The network's Top New Show of This Year Gets a Major Extension for Seasons 2 and 3. Last October, the late-night programming block welcomed back its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, shortly thereafter, the network launched a completely new animated series with a distinctly unique vibe. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a contemplative talk show. In an era often characterized by cynicism, this show's earnestness resonated deeply and helped it become a breakout hit. A Two-Season Greenlight In mid-December, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been renewed for two additional seasons. This gives showrunner Joe Cappa significant creative freedom to expand upon the world of the Campbell family. The series focuses on three polite teenage brothers whose defining trait is their profound affection for their single father, with Cappa providing the voices for all four main characters. "I am incredibly thankful to the audience of the show who took a chance on the show and helped it grow," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for a little longer." Executive Acclaim The official statement also included laudits from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "radically heartfelt and strangely uncanny." He shouted out the fans who embraced the show and advocated for its peculiarly charming sensibility. "All of you got behind this new show, rooted for it on social media, and helped it grow week over week so we could greenlight not one, but two more seasons," said Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'" A Different Kind of Comedy Earlier this fall, Haha, You Clowns was praised as "a wholesome alternative" to more cynical adult animated fare. There’s something unexpectedly cozy about watching this endearing family go about their simple existence. At the time, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to move the comedy genre beyond its current cynical streak. He traced this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises. “There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” said Cappa. “It feels as if we have to know we’re the cleverest viewer in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for too long, and we need to laugh at something different now. Comedy has to evolve.” The Path Forward With this renewal, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa could potentially catalyze that comedic shift. If nothing else, the renewal promises audiences a little more time to bask in the heartfelt moments of the unique Campbell clan. The season 1 finale of Haha, You Clowns airs on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
